The Story So Far...
The Early Years:
Late 1990s:
1998:
2008:
Two librarians job share part-time to replace full-time librarian. They use a flexible schedule with upper elementary with poor results.
2010:
The first computer class teacher with a technology background (as opposed to a classroom teacher moving into the computer lab) is hired. The schedule returns to a weekly library/computer instruction in K-5.
2011:
Computer class is integrated with Environmental Education class and is one hour. Library does half class swaps with Spanish class.
2012:
2013:
Modify 6-week intensive schedule with upper elementary with poor results. Hire a 2nd Technology Specialist with focus on early years. Also implement a MY BYOD program.
2014:
Return to a weekly one hour class period in the library for K-5 as an integrated Information and Technology Literacy class. K-2 grades primarily taught in half-class groups, grades 3-5 co-taught as a single class by a librarian and a technology specialist. Current format is working much better than any previous model.
